Elisabetta Manunza speaks at annual congress about public procurement in 2030

On 1 October 2019, prof. dr. Elisabetta Manunza spoke about ‘public procurement in 2030’ at the annual conference of the Aanbestedingsinstituut (Public Procurement Institute; part of Bouwend Nederland, the Dutch Association for the construction sector) and SMI (Stichting Marktwerking Installatietechniek – Techniek Nederland; Dutch engineering association).

In her presentation, Manunza addressed several international and European developments relating to public procurement. On an international level, geopolitical shifts are demanding a renewed approach to public procurement, to deal, for instance, with foreign investments and tenderers from outside the EU. Other issues Manunza discussed were the health of citizens and of the planet, and how the main objectives of the EU-Treaties require a new form of ‘good’ commissioning from contracting authorities. Moreover, she discussed the increasing relevance of local customized procurement and the involvement of economic operators and citizens in addressing the major challenges of society by governments.
