The Netherlands Institute of Human Rights SIM of Utrecht University kindly invites you to attend the SIM Peter Baehr lecture 2019 on the occasion of our 38th anniversary. This year, we are honoured that the lecture will be delivered by Dunja Mijatović, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights.
She will be speaking on:
From Hostility to Reconnection:
How to Make Human Rights Relevant for All
Drawing on her experience of engaging with victims of human rights violations, civil society, human rights institutions, and public officials across Europe during the first year-and-a-half of her mandate, the Commissioner will discuss a number of key current human rights challenges. She will share her views and recommendations on what can be done to best tackle these challenges and how to make human rights relevant for all.
Dunja Mijatović has been the Council of Europe´s Commissioner for Human Rights since early 2018 and was elected by the Parliamentary Assembly.
A national of Bosnia and Herzegovina, she has been working to promote and protect human rights for the past two decades, thus acquiring extensive knowledge in the field of international monitoring, in particular as regards freedom of expression and the media. Prior to her appointment as Commissioner for Human Rights, she has served, amongst others as OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Director of Broadcast of the Communications Regulatory Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Chair of Council of Europe's Group of Specialists on Freedom of Expression and Information in Times of Crisis.
