Dialogue 5: Defining, monitoring and protecting Academic Freedom: the Netherlands in European perspective
Openness Challenged: university at risk? The Academic Freedom Series
Event overview
Our fifth Dialogue took place on the 27 February 2024.
Academic freedom is essential to the functioning of universities, but needs to be protected. Nevertheless, before discussing ways of protecting academic freedom it is important to gain a thorough understanding of what trends can be perceived in Europe and what issues may arise on academic freedom in order to ultimately reflect on the question how academic freedom can be defined and legally protected at the national and European levels.
With: Prof. Peter Maassen (Oslo University), Dr. Vasiliki Kosta (Leiden University), Dr. Lavinia Kortese (Utrecht University), Mr. Jurgen Rienks LLM (Ne-ther), and Prof. Marijk van der Wende (Utrecht University).
