Daan Crommelin, emeritus professor at the department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Utrecht University, received an honorary doctorate from the Hungarian Semmelweis University in November. Crommelin and seven other prominent professors received the honorary doctorate from Béla Merkely, rector of Semmelweis University. Various foreign dignitaries attended the ceremony.
Semmelweis University has awarded eight honorary doctorates to prominent Hungarian and foreign professors yearly since 1967. The Hungarian university praised Crommelin for his particularly large number of publications and his active role as editor of books and journals, and as organiser of conferences and symposia in the pharmaceutical sciences. His research in the field of targeted drug delivery systems for biotech-based medication has had a great impact.
