CHARM-DEN: A New Platform for Start-ups

Through initiatives such as CHARM-DEN, an international hybrid pitch event, start-ups have the chance to present their ideas to a panel of experienced judges, gaining insights, connections, and critical feedback. Utrecht University (UU), an active participant in CHARM-EU, leverages this platform to empower students and early entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into impactful ventures.

Showcasing Promising Start-ups at CHARM-DEN

During the first edition of CHARM-DEN, six start-ups competed in front of a knowledgeable jury, consisting of investors and entrepreneurs, among others. Jan Haarhuis represented Utrecht University. Each of the participating start-ups demonstrated how their business model addresses important global challenges.

The winner in the 'established start-ups' category is ForSURE, a Utrecht-based start-up focused on simplifying compliance reporting for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations. Founded by Niclas Brinkmann, Daniel Hamandouche, and Isaak Siebenga, ForSURE has developed a software solution that helps companies automate data collection and reporting processes. This makes it easier for businesses to comply with complex legislation.

The jury praised ForSURE’s EPR software for its practical applications and strong business case. The platform not only offers a cost-effective solution for larger companies but also makes it accessible for small and medium-sized enterprises. With a fully functional platform ready for the market, ForSURE has already attracted interest from potential clients and is well positioned to make an impact in the regulatory compliance sector.

Championing Innovation and Sustainability

The early-stage start-up category winner, GuardenAI, merges advanced technologies to address agricultural challenges without relying on pesticides, beginning with potato blight. This innovative solution underscores the CHARM-DEN mission: supporting sustainable, technology-driven solutions that have the potential to create a lasting positive impact.

The winners, ForSURE and GuardenAI, will gain access to additional entrepreneurship events and resources. More than just a competition, CHARM-DEN offers start-ups ongoing support to foster their growth within the CHARM-EU network.
