Celebrating 60 years of climate education and research at IMAU

In 1966 a group of enthusiastic pioneers founded the Institute for Meteorology and Oceanography Utrecht (IMOU). Twenty-five years later, in 1991, its name changed to Institute for Marine and Atmospheric research Utrecht (IMAU). And this year, 2026, marks six decades of stimulating education and scientific research of the oceans, atmosphere and cryosphere at IMAU.

We celebrate IMAU’s 60th anniversary on Wednesday September 23rd, at 'De Landgoederij' in Bunnik. Throughout the afternoon and evening, guests will have the opportunity to look back on IMAU (then and now) and catch up with former colleagues and friends.

Invited to the IMAU anniversary celebration are:

  • Current IMAU employees including guests working at IMAU
  • Former IMAU employees and Professor emeriti.
  • Climate Physics students who are in their second year of the master's programme at the time of the anniversary
  • Relations of the IMAU, colleagues from other research institutes or universities we (have) closely collaborate(d) with.

We will be hosting a diverse mix of events in the afternoon and evening. There will be time for listening, exploring, eating and most of all, there will be plenty of time to meet each other. You can find the complete programme with the link to register on the IMAU website.
