Call: Research grant ‘Assessment as educational strategy’

The Higher Education Research focus area invites researchers from UU and UMCU to apply for a research grant via a tender procedure. The theme is ‘Assessment as Educational Strategy’. For one project up to €50,000 can be granted. The deadline is September 13th, 2024, 12h00.

Research on higher education and educational innovation 

Higher Education Research includes all research focused on post-secondary education. For this tender, we are seeking innovative research projects on the theme ‘Assessment as Educational Strategy’. In the words of professor Cees van der Vleuten: How can we shift from assessment of learning to assessment for learning? The project should explore how assessment can enhance Utrecht University’s education strategy (flexible, personal, and activating education) and/or educational innovation programmes (interdisciplinarity, community-engaged learning, regional education, honours, and lifelong learning).

Funding possibilities   

Proposals are welcome from interdisciplinary and interfaculty alliances, with at least one researcher experienced in higher education research. Submissions should include a brief vision on ‘Assessment as Educational Strategy’ (max 1 A4), a research plan describing how this can be researched in a feasible project (max 1 A4), and an outline of how the project outcomes will contribute to UU’s education strategy and/or educational innovation programs (max ½ A4). A budget plan, detailing how matching funds will be arranged (either in-cash or in-kind), is also required. The focus area can fund up to €50,000 for maximally one project. Research projects should lead to tangible output, consisting of a) standalone research output and b) a submission for an external grant. The grants can be used to hire a researcher or research assistant, to compensate exemption from other responsibilities (replacement), or for assistance, travel expenses or pilot study costs.
