Book: Everyday Feminist Research Praxis. Doing Gender in the Netherlands

Every year, the Netherlands Research School of Gender Studies (hosted by Utrecht University) organises a conference in which young gender scholars present their recent work. Dr Koen Leurs and Dr Domitilla Olivieri collected and edited several of these fresh perspectives on feminist research in the new book Everyday Feminist Research Praxis: Doing Gender in The Netherlands.

In their recent publication, Leurs and Olivieri offer a selection of previously unpublished work presented during the 2011, 2012 and 2013 Netherlands Research School of Gender Studies (NOG) conferences. Reflecting the wide spectrum of interdisciplinary gender studies, this volume is organised into four sections along four conceptual knots. These thematic entry-points are space/time, affectivity, public/private, and technological mediation.

The central emphasis of this volume is twofold: first, the authors approach the everyday life as a concretely grounded site of micro-political power struggles. Second, the contributors outline the connections between theory and their everyday feminist research practices.

Besides chapters from beginning gender scholars, the book also has prefaces by Dr Iris van der Tuin, Dr Kathrin Thiele,  Dr Louis van den Hengel (Maastricht University) and Dr Liza Mügge (UvA). In the concluding chapter, Leurs enters a dialogue on the dilemmas concerning feminist research practices with Prof. Rosemarie Buikema, Prof. Willy Janssen (Radboud University Nijmegen) en Dr Lies Wesseling.
