Annemiek Vermeulen appointed new Director of Utrecht University Fund

As of 1 September, Annemiek Vermeulen Msc is the new Director of the foundation Utrecht University Fund and the Head of Relationship Management of Utrecht University. She succeeds Margot van Sluis–Barten MSc, who recently left Utrecht University. Earlier this year, Vermeulen made the career move to the world of university funds after having been mayor of various municipalities for almost twenty years.

Annemiek is looking forward to deepening the relationship with current friends of UU together with a team of enthusiastic staff members. Besides that, she wants to put the UFund even more on the map in order to appeal to new donors that way too. “It's fantastic to be able to contribute in my new role to the funding of, among other things, impactful research projects and for instance beautiful projects within the university for first-generation students.”

Lodewijk Hijmans van den Bergh, Chair of the Utrecht University Fund, says: “We warmly welcome Annemiek Vermeulen as our new Director. In her new role, Annemiek can continue to build on the work done under Margot van Sluis-Barten's leadership in the past years. Both with fundraising and the further professionalisation of the organisation, the team has obtained beautiful results. For instance, the Utrecht University Fund received almost six million euros in 2023 to support education, scientific research, academic heritage and Utrecht student life. We hope to further enhance the relationship with donors, givers and other stakeholders with Annemiek.”

The Utrecht University Fund is a foundation which works with Utrecht University very closely. Just like her predecessor, Annemiek will become Director of the foundation Utrecht University Fund and Head of Relationship Management at the Communications Office of Utrecht University. In this role, she is responsible for the alumni policy and the fundraising of the university.
