AGU Early Career Award for Niko Wanders

Niko Wanders

Hydrologist Dr Niko Wanders is a recipient of the hydrological sciences early career award from the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the world’s largest Earth and Space science society. The Hydrologic Sciences Early Career Award is presented annually and recognizes outstanding contributions to hydrology through research, education, or societal impacts.

Wanders has been selected based on his significant contributions to the field of hydrology. The committee indicates that his research on climate change impacts on hydrology has already made significant changes in how we view the future.

“I’m very humbled to reached this great honour,” reacts Wanders. “I would like to thank all my mentors, from whom I have learned a lot during my career. Finally I want to thank all my collaborators with whom I share parts of my scientific journey to try and find the answers to scientific and societal questions related to drought and climate change.”

Wanders is an Assistant Professor of Hydrology. In his work he focuses on hydrological extremes; how they affect society and how changes in the climate impact the occurrence of these extreme events.

He will receive the award in December 2020 during the AGU fall meeting. This conference is the largest international Earth and space science meeting in the world.
