Creating tomorrow together

In the anniversary year, Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht invite students, staff and the people of the city of Utrecht to think about the future together. The theme of the anniversary is: creating tomorrow together. Together we look for answers to new challenges. Together we come up with solutions to problems in the city. We work, learn and live together. And we celebrate together. The anniversary activities will start at the end of March 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic has major consequences, including for the city and for our institutions. Nevertheless, especially now, we feel it is important to celebrate 385 years of science in Utrecht in an appropriate and save way with students, staff and Utrechters. To further strengthen the connection with each other and with the city of Utrecht in these difficult times. Some highlights from the programme are given below. We will, of course, adapt the programme when the situation so requires.

One question can change the world

Science belongs to all of us and everyone can make a contribution. This anniversary year, we will be talking to the people of Utrecht about themes and issues that are important to them. What do the people of Utrecht want to know? To which questions would they like an answer? This input is invaluable - one question can change the world. The Utrecht questions will lead to the Utrecht Research Agenda. The four Strategic Themes provide the guideline for this inventory. From the end of 2021, we will start sharing questions ├ánd answers and will work together with the UMCU and partners on the (research) questions.

Utrecht University City

We celebrate 385 years of science together with the city. Preparations are in full swing. A remarkable and sustainable work of art will float on a central spot in the city. Furthermore, we organize interactive table discussions and a podcast series on important Utrecht themes. Students design a city walk along historical sites in the city that they bring to life with QR codes. In an outdoor exhibition at various locations we let alumni have their voices heard. And in the Utrechts Archive the Utrechtsch Studenten Corps organises an exhibition with unique images of student life over the past 160 years.
