100 years of female professors
Westerdijk Anniversary 2017
On 10 February 2017, it will be 100 years ago that the first female professor in the Netherlands was appointed at Utrecht University: Johanna Westerdijk. She was a Professor of Phytopathology (Plant Pathology) as well as the Director of the CBS-KNAW Fungal Biodiversity Centre.
Utrecht University, the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen and the Universiteit van Amsterdam will celebrate this, starting 10 February 2017. Minister Jet Bussemaker (Education, Culture and Science) will then open the Westerdijk Anniversary's meeting in Utrecht University Hall (Dutch name: Academiegebouw) . This is a historic moment; Johanna Westerdijk held her inaugural address on 10 February 1917, at exactly 2 pm.
