Extra opportunities
For students looking for an extra challenge in addition to their Master's, there are several options.
Eurocampus
Each year, five students from Utrecht can take part in the European Master’s Programme in Intercultural Communication (EMICC). This Master’s programme started in 2002 and is organised together with eight partner universities from Germany, Estonia, France, Finland, United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal and Switzerland.
During this four-month intensive English programme (30 EC), you will take classes taught by international experts and build up an international network. Your fellow students will be from various international universities, forming a diverse, intercultural and multilingual group. You will take 15 one-week courses on themes such as English as Lingua Franca, Linga Receptiva , management, human rights, globalisation and European unification, cultural anthropology, new media and intercultural training.
Students who are interested in participating in the Eurocampus must indicate in their application that they wish to be considered for the Eurocampus. To this end, they must include a clear motivation for this participation in their letter of motivation. Eurocampus students are integrated within the Multilingual track. The compulsory programme in Utrecht is replaced by Eurocampus (30 EC).
Note: Eurocampus 2023 will take place at Tallinn University.
Masterlanguage
If you choose to specialise in a specific language during your Master’s programme, Masterlanguage can provide an interesting addition to your studies. Masterlanguage is a national course catalogue focused on German, English, French, Italian, Spanish and Dutch, as well as the classical languages (Greek and Latin). The courses are in the relevant target language (except Greek and Latin) and will be taught by (assistant-) professors from:
- University of Groningen
- Radboud University Nijmegen
- Leiden University
- Utrecht University
- University of Amsterdam
- VU University Amsterdam
You can take these courses on top of courses in the programme or after consultation with the Programme Coordinator. Course information, admission requirements and registration information can be found on the Masterlanguage website.
Along with the regular course catalogue, Masterlanguage offers lectures and masterclasses. This allows you to meet teachers with different expertise and language students from all over the Netherlands.
Interdisciplinary honours programmes
You can choose from three of the university wide honours programmes below. In these interdisciplinary programmes you will work on varying social and academic issues together with students from other disciplines. By analysing issues from different angles you learn how you can navigate in current complex societies at a broad and connecting level. After completing these honours programmes you will receive an honours certificate during a festive ceremony.
