Global sustainability challenges ask for a transdisciplinary approach. So that’s exactly what this Master’s programme is about. You learn how to approach real challenges from different stakeholder- and intercultural perspectives, gain advanced innovative knowledge, and boost your research, entrepreneurial as well as creative skills. Together with international students from different backgrounds and disciplines, and supported by an extended network of academic, society and industry experts, you’ll pave the way for an exciting future.
Next level international: Alliance of European Universities
Global Challenges for Sustainability is initiated by the Challenge-driven, Accessible, Research-Based and Mobile European University. Or in short CHARM-EU, an European alliance formed by nine prestigious, research-based universities. Five of them jointly offer this Master's progamme and four more partners are about to join the programme. This partnership stands for a full intercultural, hybrid experience where students physically study at one of the partner universities while simultaneously connecting with other campuses online.

Get ready for 2025
The current study track consists of three phases but will soon transition into a full 2-year programme of 120 ECTS. During the first year (phases 1 and 2), you will first be introduced to the main topics of sustainability, social innovation and transdisciplinary research. Phase 2 goes more in-depth, where you take modules from one of the three thematic tracks ‘Water’, ‘Life and Health’ and ‘Food’. The thematic track ‘Energy and Sustainable Cities’ will be added in 2025.
During the second year of the programme, you will put your newly acquired knowledge into action. A newly planned internship phase, currently under accreditation, allows you to expand your knowledge and expertise while working with a company, government agency, NGO or research organisation. During the last phase you will analyse and address an authentic sustainability capstone challenge together with fellow students, scientists, external business and society partners.
