Creating functional tissue models with 3D printing technologies

Study 3D printing technology with a biomedical approach. Biofabrication combines advanced fabrication techniques with biological systems to prepare designed tissue constructs. You will be equipped with a toolbox to innovate within this multidisciplinary field, and become an expert with thorough understanding as well as operational experience of processes such as 3D bioprinting, biomaterials, 3D cell culturing, computer models and imaging.

The structure of the Master’s programme offers the opportunity to design a tailor-made programme, by choosing elective courses and research projects that suit your background and interest, and instruct you in the areas in which you are less knowledgeable. Students can do an internship at any international research institution within the network of our researchers, for example in the USA, Germany, New Zealand and Australia.

Graduate School of Life Sciences

Life Sciences is one of the four strategic themes of Utrecht University and is organised in the Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS). The GSLS brings together the research expertise and facilities of the faculties of Science, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, in cooperation with UMC Utrecht. Research at the GSLS is highly interdisciplinary, because scientific breakthroughs take place where physics, medicine, chemistry and biology interact.

Introducing Life Sciences 

Every year all new Master’s students of the Graduate School of Life Sciences start their academic year with a mandatory introduction week. Introducing Life Sciences (ILS) is part of the course Life Sciences Academy and covers aspects of academic education, including science integrity, career development and valorisation & industry.
