Extra opportunities

For students looking for an extra challenge in addition to their Master's, there are several options.

Community building

Throughout the year activities are organised by both the Arts & Society programme and the Department of Media and Culture to encourage community building within and amongst programmes. For example, the academic year starts with an introduction programme of two days, organised in collaboration with partners such as the Gaudeamus Festival. The programme includes seminars, workshops, and performances.

Other activities throughout the year include the Meet the Makers series, the Transmission in Motion seminars, and other master classes and social get-togethers. The Meet the Makers programme aims to facilitate meetings and conversations between academic researchers and students, and makers – i.e. artists, curators, dramaturges, designers or other creative practitioners and professionals within the wider field of arts & culture.

Student initiatives are valued in our community. Involvement with internships, industry partners and various Utrecht-based community-building activities foster an environment for the students that encourages the development of entrepreneurial community projects, whether this is collaborating to start businesses, participation in creative foundations, or civic engagement and volunteering.

Honouring your curiosity

Utrecht University offers several honours programmes for students looking for an extra avenue to nurture their curiosity and foster their personal development. Honours education is followed on top of your regular Master’s programme. The UU Honours College offers 4 university-wide honours programmes.

University-wide honours programmes

In these interdisciplinary programmes, you can let your diverse interests run wild as you work on varying social and academic issues together with students from other disciplines. By analysing issues from different perspectives, you’ll learn how to navigate complex societal issues through a broader lens.

In an increasingly interconnected world, learning how to work with people from different fields is a vital skill. After completing these honours programmes you will receive an honours certificate during a festive ceremony. The following programmes are offered:
