This page outlines the step-by-step process for completing your application to a Master's programme at Utrecht University. Please read this information thoroughly before starting your application.
This is a selective Master's programme. To be considered for admission, you need:
- A sufficient Bachelor's degree.
Bachelor’s programmes that likely meet the requirements are:- Artificial Intelligence;
- Computer Science;
- Programmes with a major in one of the following subjects, complemented with some Computer Science or Artificial Intelligence related courses:
- Cognitive Science
- Linguistics
- Philosophy
- Psychology
- Data Science
- Mathematics
- General knowledge and basic skills, including:
- logic, in particular propositional and predicate logic;
- programming languages, and skills to develop and analyse programmes in these languages;
- artificial intelligence;
- mathematics as used in artificial intelligence;
- cognitive psychology;
- formal linguistics and natural language processing;
- philosophy of artificial intelligence;
- fundamentals of machine learning.
- A strong motivation plus knowledge, skills, and competences through your CV, course grades and motivation.
Additionally, a high level of English proficiency is expected (see below).
If you do not meet all requirements
- You must follow a deficiency course (7.5 EC), which replaces a secondary elective course; or
- If you do meet the admission requirements above, but you have substantial deficiencies, you can be considered for a tailored 30 EC Pre-Master’s programme. You need to have a Dutch educational background to follow the Pre-Master's programme. Note: The Pre-Master’s programme is not available for international students.
English language requirements
You are exempt from the English language requirement because you obtained your previous degree from a Dutch Research University.
Selection procedure
The Admissions Committee reviews all requests for admission and selects students that meet the entry requirements. In some cases you may be obliged to first complete a Pre-Master’s programme. The Admissions Committee also assesses whether you will be able to successfully complete the Master’s programme within the set time frame.

All deadlines expire at 23:59 [Central European Time] on the specified date. You must complete the application process (including submitting your application documents in OSIRIS Online Application and paying the application fee) by this time.

Visit Studielink and complete the registration process. You can find all information on how to use Studielink here. After completing your Studielink application, you will receive login details for OSIRIS online application within 2 working days.
Apply via StudielinkAfter submitting your application to Studielink, you will receive an email with login details for OSIRIS Online Application. Here you can upload all required documents and check the status of your application.
After you upload all documents in OSIRIS, the Graduate School will evaluate them. We strive to inform you of our decision within 20 working days.
