Academic staff
Dr Janna Coomans (Programme Coordinator)
Dr Janna Coomans is one of the coordinators of the Master's programme in Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Studies. She is Assistant Professor at the department of Medieval History. Her research focuses on social history, urban history and public health in premodern cities. She currently works on the VENI (Dutch Research Council) project “Inflammable cities: how fire risks transformed the Low Countries, 1250-1600”.
Dr Ortal-Paz Saar (Programme Coordinator)
Ortal-Paz Saar is a cultural historian focusing on Judaic Studies, particularly during Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Her research encompasses magic and rituals as well as funerary culture. She is particularly interested in portraying the interaction between different religious traditions. Questions of identity and interfaith relations are prominent in her publications. She is active in the field of digital humanities and directs an international project on funerary culture called PEACE. Together with an international group of colleagues, she launched the initiative Structuring Magic, aimed at developing an interdisciplinary digital infrastructure for the study of magic.
