The NWO-project Private Property and Political Power in a Liberal Democratic Society organises a workshop titled The Value of the Commons.
During this workshop the values that are involved by sharing property will be analysed. Examples of shared property are natural sources, like shared forest management. Human made objects, like irrigation systems, or even digital commons like Wikipedia, can be seen as examples of shared property as well.
What is the effect of this system of sharing property on individual freedom and the development of the commoners? What effect can this system have on a fair distribution of goods? During this workshop philosophers, historians, social scientists and jurists will examine these and other questions. They will focus on the pros and cons of shared property for the individuals as well as the society as a whole.
