Workshop on Global Justice Report 2026
Institutions for Open Society, Transforming Democracy / Utrecht University School of Economics & Ethics Institute
On September 22nd, three authors of the Global Justice Report will be in Utrecht to present their report and engage in a discussion with researchers from Utrecht University.
The Global Justice Report is written by Lucas Chancel, Jonas Dietrich, Cornelia Mohren, Rowaida Moshrif, Moritz Odersky, Thomas Piketty, en Anmol Somanchi, all members of the World Inequality Lab in Paris. The report presents an ambitious and controversial proposal on how to bring the economy and society back within planetary boundaries by 2100. The change in the economy that is proposed would require a drastic reduction in income and wealth inequality both between and within countries. The authors argue that it is possible for almost everyone to be better off if the structure of the economy undergoes significant change and new global institutions are established to ensure major redistribution on a global scale.
The meeting is open to all Utrecht University staff and students, if registered in advance. Places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is recommended but not required to read the Global Justice Report beforehand.
