Voice for Change Partnership – Advocating for access to clean energy in Honduras and Ghana

Towards Just and Inclusive Energy Transitions Webinar Series

to

SNV Netherlands Development Organisation empowered over 50 civil society organisations (CSOs) in Honduras, Kenya, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Indonesia, to advocate for increased access to renewable energy, food security, resilience, and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) through the Voice for Change Partnership Programme (V4CP).

This webinar will evolve around the programme’s activities in the energy sector in Honduras and Ghana. During the programme the CSOs generated contextualised evidence in support of their advocacy strategies, including studies presenting local energy related data, impacts on gender, employment, and environment, as well as economic and political analyses of energy issues. As a result, the CSOs were able to speak with a stronger voice to advocate for policy improvements and better provision of services, both in the public and private sector.

In Honduras the programme centred on improved cooking solutions. The programme stimulated the Honduran government to implement a national strategy for the adoption of efficient cookstoves, and fiscal incentives for improved stoves. Daisy Avila (former programme manager in Honduras for SNV) will talk about their road to success but also the challenges they face ahead, particularly since the V4CP officially ended in December 2020.

In Ghana, the V4CP programme supported CSOs to advocate for minigrids development for rural island communities. Julius Ahiekpor from the Centre for Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development will share their experiences joining hands with local communities, working with local authorities, and influencing policy development at national level.
