Trilogy of the Rule of Law - Part I: the judge and the psychiatrist - at the intersection of psychiatry, criminal law and ethics

On Thursday 15 December, we will host Part I of Trilogy of the Rule of Law with Prof Gerben Meynen and Dr Sjors Lighthart

Gerben Meynen is Professor of Forensic Psychiatry at Utrecht University and Professor of Ethics at VU University Amsterdam. He was recently awarded an NWO Vici grant for his research on the safe and responsible use of neurotechnology. Sjors Ligthart is a postdoc at Utrecht University and is working with Gerben Meynen on the above-mentioned research.

In their research, Meynen and Lighthart look at the significance of neurotechnology for criminal justice. The application of neurotechnology to convicted offenders could potentially reduce recidivism and help make society safer in the future. However, neurotechnologies also involve risks and they raise ethical and legal questions, including the issue around physical and mental integrity. The researchers are interviewed by Karin van den Boogaert, co-owner of Science ON AIR, publisher of and member of the Faculty Club.

Especially for our members, we offer the opportunity to have dinner after the event. The cost for the dinner (main course, drinks, coffee/tea) is €23.00.
