Towards better In Vitro Practices

On 1st June 2018, the 3Rs-Centre Utrecht Life Sciences will be holding the symposium 'Improving Science, Advancing Animal Welfare: Towards better In Vitro Practices'. Leading experts will outline the latest developments on good in vitro method practices and discuss the moral and scientific issues related to the use of fetal calf serum (FCS, or FBS).

 

Programme

  • Dr. Jan van der Valk, 3Rs-Centre ULS, NL (Fetal bovine serum: a pain in the dish?)
  • Dr. Sandra Coecke, European Commission, Joint Research Centre, EURL ECVAM, IT (Good in vitro method practices (GIVIMP)
  • Prof. Dr. Gerhard Gstraunthaler, Medical University Innsbruck, AT (FCS replacement by human platelet lysates)
  • Dr. Wilhelm Dirks, Leibniz-Institute DSMZ, DE (importance of cell characterization)
  • Dr. Jianan Fu, PAN-Biotech Ltd, DE (view of industry on FCS-free media)

Several other speakers will discuss the development and use of FCS-free media in their research.

 

The registration fee is €25,- (€15,- for PhD candidates and students) and includes attendance of the symposium, lunch and refreshments.
