The Trial on Trial: Towards a Communicative Approach to Criminal Proceedings
Seminar with Antony Duff

As a theory of criminal law that combines both retributivist and restorative elements, Antony Duff’s theory of communicative criminal law is widely celebrated as one of the most significant contributions to the philosophy of criminal law of the past decades. In his keynote lecture, Duff will explain the implications of his theory for the criminal trial. Anne Ruth Mackor (Groningen), Ferry de Jong (Utrecht) and Esther Nauta (Utrecht) will respond.
Antony Duff is emeritus professor of legal philosophy and criminal law at the universities of Stirling and Minnesota, fellow of the British Academy and honorary professor at the University of Edinburgh.
