This year, we are launching the IOS dialogues to invite more critical discussion across and between the IOS Platforms. These dialogues will be shaped in collaboration with the IOS Platforms, the IOS Programme Team and the IOS Office. This second one, entitled The Submissive University, co-organized by the Futures of Democracy Platform, is planned on Tuesday November 18th.
The Submissive University
Ingrid Robeyns, together with Flor Avelino and Maurits de Jongh will discuss threats to the university's core functions in a democracy, specifically in relation to the budget cuts in higher education in the Netherlands. Robyens argues that the budget cuts are not only irresponsible, unnecessary for public finances, and economically foolish, but part of wider transformation of the university into a submissive institution. In advance of this dialogue, all participants are expected to read Robyens' popularising essay 'the submissive university'
Join us on this interesting discussion on the relation between Democracy and the University!
