The future of socially responsible procurement: legal opportunities and obligations
From regulation on 'how to buy' to 'what to buy'
Socially responsible procurement has great potential to contribute to green and social goals in society. However, the fight against climate change and social inequality faces obstacles and does not want to take off effectively in many places in the Netherlands and the EU. The law is also often under discussion. Meanwhile, procurement law offers many legal opportunities for sustainable procurement, but can still limit transitions. At the same time, the legal framework is changing rapidly. The evolution from possibilities to obligations to procure in a socially responsible way is currently in full swing. This warrants scholarly discussion, fuelled by perspectives from practice.
