The best possible future for the farm
Future Food's 'plekberaad': have your say on
How can we ensure the best possible future for a farm? A farm is central to food production for people and is also heavily dependent on its environment, such as clean water, energy and pollination. What does our ideal future for our food system look like, one in which all interests – not just those of humans – have been taken into account? To find out, we are inviting stakeholders and interested parties to join us in brainstorming creative ideas at Utrecht University’s educational farm: De Tolakker.
At De Tolakker Farm (Living Lab Farming Landscapes), Utrecht University is working on the food system of the future, together with local residents and stakeholders. We want to dream about the future of the area together with you. What would you like to get out of your local area: food production, recreation, wildlife conservation, nature conservation, education? How can we (continue to) combine these functions in the future? And will that be enough to safeguard our food production? How, then, should farms and this specific location ideally be organised?
To create alternative futures, we need time and space.
Plekberaad
A ‘Plekberaad’ (community consultation) creates space for residents to contribute ideas, design and build the future of their local area, neighbourhood or community. It is a working method that stimulates both imagination and democratic renewal. Together, we embark on a creative journey in which we explore how our living environment can become the best possible place to live. For us and for future generations. This gives rise to a vision for the future that we incorporate into our plans for the area.
We therefore explicitly take into account the interests of future generations and of nature. Because only when we take as many voices as possible into account can we work towards a future that is fair for the entire environment.
Programme
At 12.30 pm, we’ll start with a future-proof vegan lunch featuring produce sourced as much as possible from local producers. This will be followed by an introduction, after which participants will be encouraged to take a creative look at the future. The results will be incorporated into the further development of the ‘Living Lab Farming Landscapes’ and the Future Food research project.
The introduction and assignements in this workshop will be in Dutch.
This workshop is a collaboration between Institutions for Open Societies, The Turn Club, Future Food Utrecht and the Living Lab Farming Landscapes. The event forms part of the Veterinary Medicine Outdoor Event (DOE Day). During the day, you can experience and take part in a wide range of activities to explore potential solutions for a sustainable food system and how we can shape the natural environment.
