Symbolic and Neuro-Symbolic AI: Reasoning and Learning
The Neurosymbolic AI paradigm is gaining momentum as researchers seek to bridge the gap between logic-based reasoning and data-driven learning. This workshop aims to foster collaboration and provide a shared space for advancing both integrated and classical approaches within this evolving field.
Workshop
This workshop on 11 June 2026 organized by the Special Interest Group (SIG) Neurosymbolic AI follows a twofold aim.
First, it wants to bring together researchers working on the interplay between symbolic, logic based AI and subsymbolic, data driven methods.
Second, the workshop, and the entire SIG want to continue being a home to a broad community of more classic, logic related research in the various UU departments and beyond.
Interplay between logical and subsymbolic systems can come in various forms and shapes. Systems may truly integrate symbolic and sub-symbolic perspectives, but one perspective may also be used to create input or determine boundaries for the others. Moreover, both perspectives can play at different levels, employing one set of tools for reasoning about the other, or in determining how far one of the perspectives can be emulated or incorporated into another.
Programme and abstracts
The workshop includes a broad variety of speakers presenting on both neurosymoblic AI, as well as classical logical approaches.
Confirmed speakers include Giovanni Casini (Pisa), Nico Potyka (Cardiff), Shihan Wang (UU), Levin Hornischer (LMU Munich), Giovanni Varricchione (UU), Maximilian Noichl (UU), Jan Broersen (UU), Mehdi Dastani (UU) and Joris Graff (Dortmund).
