Studium Generale | Utrechtse Nacht van de Filosofie
With philosopher Katie Ebner-Landy and writer and philosopher Eva Meijer, among others, we look beyond the individual.
NB: this event is in Dutch.
Who are we? In times of individualism and self-interest, the call for more community spirit is growing louder. But how we define that community – a neighbourhood, a people, a species – has consequences. Because where does 'us' end and 'them' begin? During Utrecht's Night of Philosophy, we explore with writers and thinkers whether we are more than the sum of our parts. What does 'us' mean in a world that is constantly changing?
Get ready for a dazzling evening. Philosopher and writer Eva Meijer explores what it means when we include non-human beings in the political community, philosopher Jan Broersen (UU) wonders to what extent AI reflects our society, philosopher Katie Ebner-Landy (UU) explains how the ancient Greeks thought about the other, and philosopher Colin Caret (UU) turns to Buddhism for guidance: can we really know ourselves? That and more.
In collaboration with the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies & the Descartes Centre (both UU).
