Studium Generale – Science Café: car addiction
The Dutch are proud to live in one of the most bike-friendly countries in the world. But we tend to forget that much of our public space is created to suit cars, leading to congestion, pollution, and traffic deaths. How can we cure our addiction to cars?
Innovation scientist Dr Brett Petzer (UU) will talk about the often-invisible fight for the public space between cars, public transport, bicycles, and pedestrians. ‘Cycling professor’ Marco te Brömmelstroet (UvA) explains how powerful the car lobby really is and how it affects our lives. And geoscientist Prof. Harriet Bulkeley (UU) doubts whether it is possible to get rid of the so-called car-culture.
