Utrecht's historical seed archives

For many years, botanical gardens around the world have shared what seeds they own so that they can exchange them among themselves. Here, at Utrecht Botanical Gardens University, we possess an archive of documentation - called seed lists - from hundreds of different botanical gardens. An archive dating back to at least 1837! These recorded data are invaluable for studying the intricate transfer of plants between botanical gardens. Martin Smit is curator and researcher and tonight he will tell all about collection management at the Gardens and about this special historical research.
