Scientific Artwork with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator - FULLY BOOKED

Course description

This course will help you to create beautiful and functional scientific graphics, to retouch images and to create impressions such as a thesis cover. This includes designing both vector and pixel graphics. You will learn what Illustrator and Photoshop are used for and understand the workspace of both programmes and all necessary tools used to design. We recommend this course to PhD candidates with no previous knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator. 

Learning objectives

In this course you will learn about the main functionality and structure of the programs. You will learn how to set up artboards and documents and how to use layers and masks. You will discover how to create basic and complex shapes using drawing, transforming and grouping tools. You will work with text, type and colour and learn about the differences between RGB and CMYK. Finally, you will learn how to export and print files.

Instructional method

This two-day course in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator provides an in depth explanation of the workspace of both programs and all necessary tools. During step-by-step excercises, you will practice several techniques.

Important

You will have to bring your own laptop, having Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator installed. As an employee of the UU or UMC Utrecht you can buy an Adobe license for only €19,75 via Surfspot.

Course certificate

You will receive a certificate of completion if you attend both sessions of the course and complete all the course requirements (i.e. assignments).

Cancellation/no-show

You may cancel your application free of charge up to four weeks before the start of the course. If you cancel your application within four weeks before the start or if you do not meet the attendance requirements of the course, you(r department/research group) will be charged a no-show fee (€235 for this course). Unfortunately we cannot make any exceptions to this policy.
