Science Jam #58: Application of AI in COVID-19

to

Thanks to the Young Complexity Researchers Utrecht (YCRU) group, they brought these popular sessions back to the CCSS for our researchers to discuss challenges in Complex Systems Studies. Everyone is welcome!

Therefore, we cordially invite you to the Science Jam #58 on Thursday 30 January (12:00-13:00) at the Centre for Complex Systems Studies (CCSS) where you can:

  • Get a free gourmet lunch with the best sandwiches you can get at the Utrecht Science Park plus nice drinks;
  • Know one senior complexity researchers' work over one-hour lunch time;
  • Contribute your professional knowledge and experiences in a relaxing and informal setting;
  • Develop potential collaboration.

Leading complexity researcher: Dr. Alejandro Lopez Rincon, Pharmacology Machine Learning Group (UU&UMCU)

Abstract:
This presentation explores two significant advancements in the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the medical field. Firstly, we discuss an AI model developed to identify specific genomic sequences for SARS-CoV-2. These sequences were validated and used to design a primer set that demonstrated high sensitivity and 100% specificity in tests, showcasing its potential for rapid and accurate viral detection during pandemics. Secondly, we delve into the application of machine learning in drug discovery for Long COVID. This segment highlights the similarities and differences between Long COVID and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between these conditions for better diagnosis and identification of drug targets. Together, these advancements underscore the transformative impact of AI and machine learning in enhancing diagnostic accuracy and accelerating drug discovery processes.

Everyone is welcome and please feel free to invite your colleagues/friends/classmates/students to join us.

If you would like to have the lunch arrangement, please sign up before 15:00 Wednesday 29 January.
