Ready to Start - What to expect if you start a science based company (UtrechtInc)

Target audience

This course is most valuable to PhD candidates in the middle or at the end of their PhD track, as you will apply what you learn during this course to the results and skills you have acquired during your own PhD tract. Also welcome are postdocs, (senior) researchers and anyone who is involved/interested in creating more impact with research.

Course description

Explore how you could make an impact with your research by starting a company. This is a four-week, free, online, evening course for researchers in Utrecht to get a sneak peek into the entrepreneurial world.

You don’t need to have your own startup idea to join this course. It’s enough if you are curious about commercializing your research. We do ask you to keep a research project in mind to use as a thought experiment for the exercises.

This course is offered to you by UtrechtInc, the startup incubator of UU and UMC Utrecht.

Learning objectives

  • Is entrepreneurship something for me?
  • How do I transfer the IP of my research into a new company?
  • Can I combine an academic career with entrepreneurship?
  • What options do I have to start my own company?
  • What can I expect from the entrepreneurial journey?
  • What is a startup?
  • How can an incubator help me?
  • What about grants and subsidies?
  • Where do I look for team members?
  • What roles could I take in a startup team?
