Programming Café - 3 April 2025

to

Do you want to meet other researchers, improve your programming skills, or ask questions related to programming? Pick up your laptop and come to the Programming Café!

During this informal meet-up, which is a ‘relaunch’ of the popular R Café, we will share knowledge about programming through short presentations, work on programming projects, and help each other with challenges in working with code and data.

What to expect

During the Programming Café, you can work on your own project and share knowledge in a community setting. You can also bring your programming questions, bugs, and problems to resolve or discuss with members of RDM Support and researchers attending the café.

Furthermore, each Programming Café will have a special theme. This is typically a short presentation or demonstration of (maximum) half an hour. We are always looking for suggestions on themes and people who want to present something. Don’t hesitate to send an email to info.rdm@uu.nl if you want to provide a suggestion or give a presentation!

Programming Café Meets Lili’s Proto Lab

At the programming Cafe' we are crazy about software, but every now and then, we love to peek up from our laptops and dive into the world of hardware!

This April, the Programming Café community is thrilled to host our friends from Lili’s Proto Lab, a fantastic makerspace where creative ideas come to life. From 3D printing and laser cutting to microfluidics and robotics, Lili’s Proto Lab offers the tools and expertise to turn concepts into working prototypes. Their team will give us an inside look at their work, their cutting-edge facilities, and the exciting possibilities they offer.

Arduino Workshop on 17 April

And that’s not all! On April 17th, it’s our turn to visit Lili’s Proto Lab! They’ve prepared a special Arduino workshop just for the Programming Café community, giving us the perfect opportunity to get hands-on with hardware. Arduino is an open-source electronics platform that you can use for all sorts of projects, from blinking lights to robots and smart home gadgets, perfect for experimenting, learning, and bringing cool ideas to life.

There are only 15 spots available for the Arduino workshop, so hurry up and reserve your spot here (select "Programming Cafe x LPL - Hardware meets software Arduino").

📅 When? Thursday, April 17th, 15:00–17:00
📍 Where? Lili's Proto Lab, Caroline Bleekergebouw 0.20-0.26a (Utrecht Science Park)

In conclusion: grab a seat, meet Lili's ProtoLab staff, grill our software engineers with questions about programming, life, and everything else, or simply work from here while enjoying free drinks and snacks. Join us at the Programming Café (and the Arduino workshop), we can’t wait to see you there!
