Programming Café - 12 December 2024 (Christmas edition)
Do you want to meet other researchers, improve your programming skills, or ask questions related to programming? Pick up your laptop and come to the Programming Café!
During this informal meet-up, which is a ‘relaunch’ of the popular R Café, we will share knowledge about programming through short presentations, work on programming projects, and help each other with challenges in working with code and data.
What to expect
During the Programming Café, you can work on your own project and share knowledge in a community setting. You can also bring your programming questions, bugs, and problems to resolve or discuss with members of RDM Support and researchers attending the café.
Furthermore, each Programming Café will have a special theme. This is typically a short presentation or demonstration of (maximum) half an hour. We are always looking for suggestions on themes and people who want to present something. Don’t hesitate to send an email to info.rdm@uu.nl if you want to provide a suggestion or give a presentation!
Christmas Edition
Christmas is just around the corner and we prepared something special for the last Programming Cafe’ of the year!
The day will be devoted to Advent of Code, the annual coding challenge created by Eric Wastl (read a nice blog about it made by the eScience center here). It's like an advent calendar for coding challenges containing 25 daily programming puzzles, released one per day between December 1-25. The Dutch Research Community is hosting the event and you can sign up here. During the Cafe’, we will try to solve as many challenges as possible. Not only that, but there will be working tables dedicated to different programming languages!
Have you always been curious about that programming language everybody talks about, but never seen it at work? Do you want to make new year coding resolutions? Do you want to work on some coding for work or just for fun? Do you want to have a chilly Christmashy chat with fellow coders? Whatever you are a programmer, a researcher or an enthusiast looking for free drinks and snacks, come and join us at the next Programming Café!
P.S. Want to present your research project or the latest development tool at a future Café? Contact the Programming Café Board! (ProgrammingCafeBoard@solisservices.onmicrosoft.com)
Who can attend
Everyone is welcome at the Programming Café! You can be of any skill level and at any stage in working with your code and data. We expect most attendees will be R or Python users, but users of other programming languages and software are invited as well.
Registration
Registrations are not mandatory, but we appreciate them in order to arrange refreshments and snacks. For the same reason, it would be helpful to deregister in case you can no longer attend. You can register using the link at the bottom of this page.
