United under aRed Umbrella tentoonstelling over sekswerkers

The traveling photo exhibition United Under a Red Umbrella, on the living and working conditions of sex workers in thirteen countries around the world, can be seen from December 17, 2019 in the hall of the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Governance at Janskerkhof 2-3.

The Willem Pompe Institute of Criminal Law at Utrecht University invited the makers of the exhibition and is co-financier. The exhibition has previously been held in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam.

The exhibition is a series of impressive photographs with citations from the book United Under a Red Umbrella, made by former sex worker Mariska Majoor and her daughter Robin Haurissa. They traveled around the world to speak with "colleagues" and activists advocating for the rights of sex workers. Robin took the photos and Mariska held interviews.

Grand Opening

At the grand opening of the exhibition, Majoor and Haurissa will give a presentation on their project. Various members from the sex workers community will be present to speak on the current state of prostitution in the Netherlands. There will be time for questions from the audience, followed by drinks. The language of the evening will (mainly) be English. The photographs will be on display until mid January 2020.

The book United under a Red Umbrella will be available for a "student price" of 15 Euro on the evening of the grand opening.

United Under a Red Umbrella is finanded by the Amsterdamse Prostitutie en Gezondheid centrum
