PhD Pitch Higher Education Research

to

Higher education is changing rapidly and needs to do so to keep pace with changes in society. Education strives increasingly for interdisciplinarity, societal interaction, and flexibility of programmes. In the focus area Higher Education Research, researchers at Utrecht University work together to examine implications of the afore mentioned changes for teaching and learning in higher education.

In the coming months we will organise PhD pitches, to stimulate the exchange of educational research across faculties. The meetings take place every second Tuesday of the month between 16h00 and 17h00. During the first meeting (12 January), Sofie Smeets and Simone Hackett will talk about their research. After both have given a pitch (each fifteen minutes), there will be room for questions and interaction.

  • Sofie Smeets (FSBS) conducts ethnographic research on diversity in higher education. She focuses on the experiences of higher education teachers who want to make their education more inclusive, to understand the (im)possibilities of inclusive education.
  • Simone Hackett (FSBS) measures the effectiveness of Virtual Exchange – Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)  in internationalisation of higher education.

The upcoming events will take place on: 12th January 2021, 9th February 2021, 9th March 2021, 13th April 2021, 11th May 2021, 8th June 2021. We invite you to these meetings, would like to ask you if you would like to draw our attention to PhD students in the field of higher education research, and ask you to forward this email to Higher Education Research PhD students. Please write down the 8th of December in your schedules. In a couple of weeks a MS Teams link will follow.
