Are you a sustainability practitioner or researcher working towards solutions? On Thursday May 23rd from 13:00 to 18.00, Utrecht University and Gemeente Utrecht (Utrecht City Council) are holding a unique symposium at the Filmcafé Utrecht on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – the 17 Global Goals for a better and more sustainable future set by the United Nations with governments and citizens from around the world.
The symposium is organized together with Dutch SDG Coordinator Hugo von Meijenfeldt (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and will bring together 150 2nd year Global Sustainability Science students from Utrecht University with leading sustainability academics, city and national level policy makers, businesses and other practitioners working on or interested in these Global Goals. We are extending an invitation to you to participate in the symposium and join the discussion!
What will happen?
In an open marketplace format, 150 students will present and engage in dialogues about original and carefully constructed pathways toward achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals. The exchange will be two way. Students can learn from your experience, and you can leave with fresh ideas on how to move forward with sustainability challenges.
The best pathways will be voted on by all and presented at the end. After that, there will be a borrel and refreshments followed a surprise film curated by last year’s students.
This event comes at a special time. Utrecht has been recognized as the most active city in the Netherlands in terms of its contributions to the Global Goals – the initiative Utrecht4GlobalGoals has mobilized a unique network of organizations working on the goals. At the same time, a new Bachelor’s programme at Utrecht University, Global Sustainability Science, has started, and is educating around 150 students each year on how to tackle sustainability challenges at all levels.
There is a strong interest from all around the city to connect sustainability education to policy and action, and the Global Goals make for an excellent connection point. There has never been a better time to join the discussion and meet other like minded practitioners and young people working on solutions to achieving the Global Goals for sustainability.
