String quartet plays ocean currents

Music meets science in ‘Music by Oceans’

Music by Oceans

Does the Atlantic Ocean sound different from the Indian Ocean? Are polar ocean currents fundamentally different from those in tropical seas? On 31 October, visitors will have an opportunity to hear for themselves during the ‘Music by Oceans’ event at Gasthuis Leeuwenbergh in Utrecht. During the event, a string quartet will perform compositions inspired by data retrieved from ocean probes. Between the performances, scientists will talk about the ocean currents upon which the compositions are based.

Read more about the collaboration in the press release.

The symposium will be held at Gasthuis Leeuwenbergh, Servaasbolwerk 1a in Utrecht. The doors open at 15:00, and the symposium will begin at 15:30. Admission is free, but please sign up in advance, as seating is limited. The presentations are in Dutch, but of course the musical performances transcend language boundaries. You can find the registration form here.

The symposium is made possible through funding from NWO.
