‘Monument of Pride’ – A documentary on the pink revolution in the Netherlands

Still from ‘Monument of Pride’

The Netherlands is known as one of the most LGBTQ-tolerant countries in the world. But how did gay emancipation develop in the Netherlands? How did this country get from executing sodomites to being the first in the world to legalize gay marriage? And are the Dutch really as tolerant as is claimed?

Monument of Pride tells the uncensored story of the 'pink revolution' in the Netherlands. Historical images alternate with current events held on the Amsterdam Homomonument and portraits of today’s activists. The film is a tribute to the 30-year-old Homomonument in Amsterdam and to everyone who has fought for the freedom we now often take for granted. The screening is followed by a Q&A with film director Sebastiaan Kes and Syrian activist Shevan van der Lugt.
