On Wednesday 28 May, Utrecht Forum for Memory Studies will organise the lecture ‘Law and Property: Debates on Restitution in Spanish Early Colonial Times’ by Kirsten Mahlke (Universität Konstanz).

Kirsten Mahlke aims to address restitution debates beyond colonial artifacts, focusing on cultural identity, sovereignty, land, and rights. She examines a transcontinental dialogue as early as the sixteenth century among indigenous leaders and Spanish scholars, particularly in the School of Salamanca. These dialogues addressed injustices and advocated the restoration of goods, land, and sovereignty.
