Kick-off Event 'Making, Unmaking and Remaking the Rule of Law'
An Interdisciplinary Research Project aimed at Institutional Change and Transition in Turbulent Times
Join us for a kick-off event where we will introduce the basic ideas of this project and the activities planned so far. For this, we warmly invite scholars from the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance (REBO), the Humanities Faculty (GW), scholars connected with the strategic theme Institutions for Open Societies (IOS), and all other interested scholars from Utrecht University to participate. We welcome philosophical, historical, legal, theoretical and empirical contributions.
About the project
This is a joint initiative of the IOS Global Futures of Democracy Initiative and the Montaigne Centre for Rule of Law and Administration of Justice, examining the state of the rule of law from different disciplinary and methodological perspectives.
We will focus on the following central questions:
- What are the origins of the rule of law in its present form, and how has it been legitimated;
- what are its present shortcomings;
- and how can we transform it so that it will remain relevant, responsive and robust in turbulent times?
You can find more information on the call-for-contributions flyer.
Would you like to present your research on (aspects of) the rule of law?
Marc Hertogh (m.l.m.hertogh@uu.nl), Hanneke van Eijken (H.vanEijken@uu.nl) and Lars Behrisch (l.behrisch@uu.nl) are looking forward to hearing your ideas!
