Presentation of key insights from the the book 'Job Quality in a Turbulent Era'
The rapid digital transformation of work is creating new opportunities, but also raising important questions about the quality of jobs and working lives. How do developments such as AI, platform work, algorithmic management and multiple jobholding affect workers, and what does "good work" mean in an increasingly digital world? In this event, Agnieszka Piasna (ETUI) and Wieteke Conen (AIAS-HIS, UvA) present key insights from the recently published open access book Job Quality in a Turbulent Era.
The book examines how digitalisation, the green transition, demographic change and evolving labour markets are reshaping job quality, while highlighting the importance of fairness, sustainability and social inclusion alongside individual well-being.
Programme
The programme includes an overview of the book with a focus on its relevance for digital labour research, a presentation on multiple jobholding, reflections from members of the Utrecht University Digital Labour Network, and an open discussion with the audience. The event is open to students and staff from all disciplines with an interest in work, technology and the future of job quality.
Speakers
Agnieszka Piasna is Senior Researcher in the Economic, Employment and Social Policies Unit at the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI). She coordinates the Internet and Platform Work Survey, develops the European Job Quality Index, and conducts research on working time reduction.
Wieteke Conen is Senior Researcher at the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies – Hugo Sinzheimer Institute (AIAS-HSI), University of Amsterdam (UvA). Her expertise lies in exploring the transformations of work within advanced economies, with a particular focus on enrichment and depletion effects.
