On Thursday 8 December, Remme Verkerk, professor of civil procedural law, will deliver his oration on the subject 'Legal means – some thoughts on three-tiered jurisdiction'.
Civil procedural law is, in a sense, about finding the right balance between procedural guarantees on the one hand and efficiency on the other. The lecture will deal with legal rules that allow judgments once rendered to be challenged in a higher court. The key message is that in this respect the balance is lost. The existing rules on legal means make our legal system too expensive, too slow and therefore unusable for most citizens and entrepreneurs.
