On May 26 2025, prof. Shazly Savahl will give his inaugural address titled: 'The 10th Shift in Child and Youth Well-Being Research: A Global Social Justice Perspective'.
Well-being of children and young people
Central to Professor Savahl’s approach is his conviction that the well-being of children and young people must be afforded the highest priority. His research focuses on critical aspects of children’s quality of life, such as health and education, while also striving to enhance the overall life satisfaction and happiness of children and youth.
Understand their perspectives
As holder of the Prince Claus Chair, Prof. Shazly Savahl will foreground children’s authentic participation in order to understand and respect their perspectives on matters affecting their lives. The participatory approach as well as the evidence-based research are harnessed for the development of programs and policies that prioritize children’s rights and needs.
Social Justice approaches
In the inaugural lecture, prof. Savahl will share recent developments in the field of child well-being research, in particular the shift towards Social Justice approaches. The lecture considers the ways in which social justice perspectives on child and youth well-being can be translated to research, social and policy practices, to ultimately create a more equitable and fair society for all children and young people.
