Inaugural lecture of Guido van den Ackerveken

Guido van den Ackerveken

On 1 November 2016, Guido van den Ackerveken was appointed to the position of professor in the field of “Translational Plant & Microbial Biology”. In his inaugural lecture, he will examine the importance of curiosity-driven research into plants and microbes, specifically in the field of plant pathology. Fundamental knowledge forms the indispensable base for “translational” research for the purpose of applying it to food production and bio technology. This could enable it to contribute to solving great social challenges that humanity faces, such as an increasing world population, sustainable development and food security/safety.
