In conversation with art: Being a University

What do you see when you look at the tapestry ‘Being a University’? Come and explore the artwork together with fellow students and staff and join the conversation on multiple perspectives on the university.

What’s your view on our university? What does the university mean to you? And where do ‘pretty words’ and ideals clash with reality? In the fall of 2025, students and staff at Utrecht University came together to discuss these matters. Their experiences, wishes and beliefs are woven into this tapestry.  And how about yours?

Background

The tapestry Being a University by artist Mart Veldhuis is based on three dialogues between students and staff about how they see the university. These dialogues and the artwork are part of the Comenius education innovationproject 'Open Mind', that aims to stimulate dialogue with art and creative methods.
