Guided Reading Seminar: Indigenizing Environmental Humanities, Philosophy and Justice
Dr. Brian Burkhart is a member of Cherokee nation, author of the book Indigenizing Philosophy and director of the Indigenous Knowledge Center at the University of Oklahoma and Indigenous Studies. He will be visiting Utrecht University this autumn on a Critical Pathways Fellowship.
The reading groups will be organized thematically based on the two seminars that Professor Burkhart will present at Utrecht: Indigenous Visions of Law and Ecocide and Decolonizing and Indigenizing Sustainability Through the Land (more info soon).
These sessions are intended for students with an interest in Indigenous environmentalism and non-Western perspectives on justice and the climate crisis. Due to the limited number of sessions and participant capacity, it will not be possible to cover all the readings in the available time. Below is a list of readings that will be addressed by Dr. Sánchez De Jaegher, but there will also be space for discussing additional readings from the recommended literature that haven't been prioritized for these sessions. If students wish to discuss any of these additional texts, they are required to notify us a few days in advance.
If you wish to participate in the guided reading seminars, please register via this form. All the readings are available via Google Scholar and the university library, including Brian Burkhart’s book.
