Grand opening of the ‘UU BioCliVE’

We cordially invite you to attend the grand opening of the UU BioCliVE (Utrecht University Biodiversity and Climate Variability Experiment) on 11 October 2017 in the Utrecht University Botanical Gardens.

UU BioCliVE, a long-term biodiversity and climate variability experiment

Extreme climate events such as ravaging floods and droughts are becoming increasingly frequent and intense across the world. Concurrently, biodiversity is declining in response to human activities. To examine how biological diversity can provide us with natural insurance against climate variability, the UU Ecology and Biodiversity Group has established an unprecedented, long-term biodiversity experiment, UU BioCliVE. To officially kick-off this initiative, this mini-symposium will highlight developments in biodiversity and climate change research, as well as showcase and explain the UU BioCliVE.

Registration in the Studentlab (in the tropical greenhouses) of the Botanical Gardens with tea and coffee.

Welcome (George Kowalchuk) and opening remarks (Gerrit van Meer – Dean Faculty of Science) in the Studentlab.

Yann Hautier. ‘Grasslands of the Future: interconnections of climate and diversity?’.

Jasper van Straeten and Jeroen Jonkers. ‘UU BioCliVE: An experiment manipulating plant diversity and climatic variability’.

Anke Jentsch. ‘Emerging insights from a decade of precipitation change experiments’.

Visit of the UU BioCliVE experiment (2 minute walk together).

Drinks (Borrel) in the Serre of the Botanical Gardens (2 minute walk back together).
